RESEARCH CONSULTANCY In order to promote Research Culture in the campus ,the institution motivated its faculty to take up research in education by providing library, internet facility and also availing leave for attending seminars, workshops, present papers and publish articles and research studies in National and International Journals and Publications. The institution has membership in US International library. Above all it organized a UGC sponsored National Seminar on the theme’ Promoting Research Culture for Enhancing Quality of Research.’ Workshops on SPSS and FLASH were organized. It promotes the interaction with experts and Research Guides there by updating the faculty. Research Centre Consultation and Guiding of research projects by faculty Research Library Facility Library is spacious with a good number of Almirahs, Periodical section with open stacks, shelves – displaying magazines, journals and news papers, corner for new arrivals, stack room with lending section, post graduate reference section. Internet facilities were provided. In addition to the main library students have access to avail books from their own subject library. Organization of Inter collegiate programmes, seminars, exhibition, workshops etc. A host of activities including UGC sponsored National Seminar for teachers, M.G.University sponsored State level seminar for non-teaching staff, AIACHE sponsored Inter Collegiate Seminar and poster competition for students. An inter collegiate paper presentation contest for M.Ed. students was also conducted. *** GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING CONSULTANCY 1.Guidance and counselling services facilities to students. At an ad hoc basis a trained counsellor was appointed to render counselling services. The faculty also conducted periodic counselling and understood and resolved the problems of the students. 2. Activities of Guidance and Counselling Unit Holy Spirit Counselling Centre is functioning actively in the premises of the institution. During the leisure time faculty members give necessary guidance to the students to cope up with their personal problems. Two of our faculty members (Sr. Omana P.L. and Betty P.J) attended a one week seminar on life coping skills. A Placement Service Cell is functioning in the College which provides opportunities for career talks, Orientations and model sessions on how to face interviews. A career corner is functioning in the college library which provides career books and magazines. Vimala Corporate Educational Agency recruited teachers from our College for its schools. Various organizations like TIME, Brilliance, selected teachers from this institution. We display the career calls on the notice board and contact our alumni when an offer comes. Some of our students qualified NET and SET. A good number of students are working in Higher Secondary schools in and around Ernakulam. Mentoring System: A mentoring system was adopted in which every teacher was entrusted 15 students. The teacher acted as a mentor who provided appropriate academic professional advice and guidance. The institution established close rapport with the students and facilitated free exchange of ideas.To have a personal relationship with the students a profile of each student was maintained by the class teachers. Mentoring system was introduced to prepare the students for the tasks lying ahead and also in training them to face challenges and succeed. Guidance and Counselling is offered as an Elective Course: Enhance communication skills and effective transaction of Curriculum by organizing Seminars, Exposure Programmes, Talks, Awareness Classes . Kuriakose Mundadan 11 Diagnostic tests and Remedial programmes for Academically Low Achievers The primary objective of the institution is the upliftment of the weaker sections specially, the women and children. In order to realize this objective Remedial Teaching programmes were arranged for the academically low achievers which included peer tutoring, extra coaching for all subjects, tutorial classes, bridge course and shared teaching practice. Certificate course on spoken English and computer (MS. Office) were arranged. Grievance Redressal Mechanism The institution has a Grievance Redressal Cell which functioned according to the by law’s of the Cell. It kept a Grievance Redressal box that enabled the students to voice their complaints and suggestions. The concerned body took necessary steps regarding the matter. 13. Stress Management Mechanisms : The institution tried to form outstanding personalities by making them efficient teachers who excel in all aspects; intellectual, spiritual, social and physical. Proper curriculum transaction through innovative methods like computer assisted learning, internet facilities, participation in seminars, discussions, debates, brain storming sessions etc were adopted. To nurture spirituality – retreats, value education classes, inter religious prayer meetings, moral education classes, yoga and meditation were organized and Video Cassettes and CD’s on basic human values were displayed.Physical Education and Health Education Classes, Workshop on First Aid etc. helped them to develop physically balanced personality. All these contributed to form outstanding individuals, who are well equipped to compete, with the challenges ahead. Resource Library services: for the disadvantaged students and differentially abled students 23 Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and the action taken on student feedback. Once in three months the teacher educators collect written feed back from the students. At the end of the academic year evaluation of teacher educators by students was done using the format, Teacher Educator Evaluation Proforma(TEEP).The data were analysed by the concerned teachers and appropriate improvements were made on the basis of the feedback. Development programmes for staff During the academic year the non-teaching staff make use of every opportunity to attend the Seminars and Workshops. Two of them (Liji Thomas & Rincy V.D) attended a Certificate course in Spoken English.They attended the short term computer courses, personality development programmes, exposure programmes, seminars and talks . For the effective transaction of curriculum teachers prepared teaching manual. Extension programmes were strengthened and the students reach out to the women in the Community and empowered them. Teachers visited students’ houses, gave a listening heart to their problem as well as guided them. Weak students were identified and provided financial support. Guidance and Counselling service to the public: Faculty members visited schools and provided classes on specific learning disabilities and intervention programmes. Students visited rehabilitation centers, govt. hospitals, and gave food, cloth and economic help. Food packets were distributed to street children in partnership with NGO’s and ‘Love and Care’ Association. Reach out to the needy of the rural area by strengthening community development programmes. The institution organized several outreach programmes for enhancing the upliftment of our neighbours and society at the adopted Panchayaths. Women empowerment programmes were organized in collaboration with Kudumbasree units.
