Jeevani is a comprehensive project initiated in 2019 by the Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Kerala, in collaboration with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru. The state nodal office for Jeevani is located at the Department of Psychology, Government College for Women, Thiruvananthapuram. This program represents a preventive and promotional model aimed at enhancing the mental health and well-being of college students.
The primary aim of the Jeevani project is the early identification of psychological issues among college students and the provision of necessary support to manage their stress effectively. This support is achieved through relaxation techniques and various positive psychological interventions. Jeevani’s efforts ensure that students receive timely help, thereby fostering a mentally healthy campus environment.
On the 4th of September, the Jeevani Centre at St. Joseph’s College of Teacher Education for Women conducted an orientation session for first-year B.Ed students. The session aimed to introduce the students to the mental health services available on campus under the Jeevani initiative.
The session was led by Ms. Parvathy, a Jeevani Counsellor, who provided a comprehensive overview of the project, its objectives, and the functioning of the Jeevani Centre. She emphasized the importance of mental well-being and encouraged students to avail themselves of the mental health support provided by the Jeevani Centre whenever they experience distress.
